Favourite Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 Collections.

Paris Fashion Week marked the end of Fashion month and what a fabulous way to end it. Structured and somewhat broad shouldered and feminine inspired suits made their mark on the Parisian runways. Hedi Slimane made his debut for the revamped Saint Laurent formerly known as Yves Saint Laurent, Raf Simone took over at Christian Dior and Sarah Burton held the Alexander McQueen flag high. Here is a look at some of our favorite collections as we bid au revoir to Paris Fashion Week spring/summer 2013.

Alexander McQueen. Sarah Burton went for an apiary themed Spring/Summer 2013 collection and an exploration of the female form. A collection made for worker bees (which most women are). Honeycomb mesh made for perfectly executed jackets, cropped skinny trousers, pencil skirts and round bee-keeper hats sat atop models’ heads. There came the beautifully extravagant tiered, corseted caged and crinoline gowns that any woman would look good in. It was utterly genius and breath-taking.

Saint Laurent. Hedi Slimane sent out rock chicks with in fedoras which came with every look- and their multiple neck bows, tuxedo jackets and super skinny trousers for the  Saint Laurent spring/summer 2013 collection. It was a dramatic combination of the rock edge aesthetic combined with 70s shapes- billowy chiffon blouses and flowing maxi dresses with equally billowy sleeves. A far cry and refreshing look from the bohemian flower power we were used to seeing. These were rocker girls with serious rock credentials.

Louis Vuitton. Marc Jacobs sent down his models from escalators in pairs decked in checkered dresses of short, calf or long lengths in brown and white, yellow and white or black and white, maxi and pencil skirts. Whilst stripes were paramount in his New York spring/summer 2013 collection, Marc opted for squares for his Louis Vuitton collection. Dresses, jackets and skirts came in checkerboard squares that got smaller or bigger as the collection went on. It was simple, no fuss, elegant and Sixties chic.

Viktor & Rolf. The Viktor & Rolf spring/summer 2013 collection comprised of flowing monochrome pleats, metallic draped trousers, mosaic mirror embroideries of roses and bows, tulle festooned maxi skirts and blouses that descended down white pieces. On a backdrop of flesh tones, white and black, it was soft and dreamy at Viktor & Rolf.

Andrew Gn. With jewel encrusted necklines, side-swept hair and A-line silhouettes, Andrew Gn’s spring/summer 2013 collection was a grand affair. An overtly feminine collection, the detailing elevated every look. Pearls were everywhere, from tear drop earrings to belts to ankle straps; delicate floral applique enhanced the shimmer of the satin on which it was sewn and the most gorgeous collection of black and white pieces.

Paris Fashion Week ss13.

It is only fitting that fashion week comes to an end in a city known for its glamor, beauty and high fashion, Paris- the fashion capital of the world. Here is a look at the trends the capital of fashion has to offer next spring and summer from its impeccable collections.

Power Suits. Menswear inspired suits met the feminine touch at Christian Dior, Balmain, Lanvin and Roland Mouret when models took to the runway in slinky, tapered suits.

Saint Laurent ss13
Cropped Tops. Cropped tops cruised the runways of Rochas, Balenciaga, Balmain and Carven during Paris Fashion Week.

Balenciaga ss13
Stripes. A trend that has managed to make tracks from New York, London, Milan made its way onto the runway at Cedric Charlier, Christian Dior, Vanessa Bruno and Guy Larouche.

Elie Saab ss13
High-waist Trousers. Tapered, tight and high at the waist trousers walked the runways of Maison Martin Margiela, Roland Mouret, Balmain and Tsumori Chisato.

Balmain ss13
Asymmetrical Shoulders. Isabel Marant, Vionnet, Givenchy and Chloe brought back the asymmetry cut as dresses and jumpsuits fell from one side of the shoulders at fashion week.

Lanvin ss13
Tea-Length Hemlines. Unlike Milan where hemlines were short, Parisian hemlines erred on the demure midi/tea-length at Rochas, Manish Arora, Christian Dior and Balenciaga.

Rochas ss13
Maxi Skirts. Maxi skirts wafted gently down the catwalks of  Alexis Mabille, Artsuro Tayama, Viktor + Rolf as well as Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week.

Viktor and Rolf ss13
Strapless. Off the shoulder dresses were plenty at Rick Owens, Vanessa Bruno, Cacharel and Kenzo runway shows.

Christian Dior ss13
Black and White. A color combo trend that is gaining momentum, it was monotone chic at Antonio Vacarello, Haider Ackermann, Chanel, Cedric Charlier, Andrew Gn and Rue Du Mail.

Tunic Dresses. Tunic dresses were loose, simple, short and sweet on the runways of Maison Martin Margiela, Hussein Chalayan, Louis Vuitton, Rochas and Chanel.
